White Ruffles begins at the Meadowlands

Cheyenne Ava pulled off an upset when she soared down the lane to capture the first leg of the White Ruffles Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Cat Manzi rallied Cheyenne Ava down the stretch to win in a new lifetime mark of 1:55.3. Tammibest was a head behind in second and Lightning Treasure finished third. Cheyenne Ava paid $33.60, $11.40, and $6.

Cheyenne Ava is trained by Robert Siegleman and owned by the Cheyenne Gang of Port Washington, N.Y.

In the second division of the White Ruffles, Orphan Annie took the lead at the half and held on to win with Yannick Gingras in the bike. Orphan Annie held off all other competitors for a lifetime best of 1:53.3. Milly N Me finished 2 1/4 lengths behind in second and A Patchy Frost was third. Orphan Annie paid $16, $5.80, and $4.

Ronnie Burke trains the daughter of Sportsmaster-Unfinite Wisdom. Orphan Annie is owned by Frank Baldachino of Clarksburg, N.J.

Thong Song blew past all other challengers in the stretch to score the third division of the White Ruffles.

Driven by Andy Miller, Thong Song won in a lifetime-best 1:53. The favorite, Lady Jane B, finished six lengths behind in second and I’m Betting On You finished third. Thong Song paid $4.60, $3.40, and $2.40.

Thong Song is trained by Erv Miller and is owned by Riverview Farms, Michael Sofer, John Fodera, and RAW Equine.

It was a Gingras-Burke double that concluded the fourth division of the White Ruffles as LC Tiffany catapulted down the stretch to win. Gingras drove LC Tiffany to victory in 1:54. Red Star Ashlee was 2 3-4 lengths back in second and Driving In Style finished third. LC Tiffany paid $4.80, $3.60, and $4.20.

LC Tiffany is trained by Burke and owned by Sylvia Burke, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, and William Lanyl.

The second leg of the White Ruffles will be Thursday, Jan. 15, and the $50,000 final will be on Jan. 22. (Meadowlands)
