The Allerage Trot for older trotting mares, set for Sunday at The Red Mile, includes defending Allerage champion Buck I St. Pat and recent Miss Versatility winner Autumn Escapade, two mares who are well known to regular fans. But the field also includes a bonafide unknown: Swept To Victory.
Swept To Victory was bred in Pennsylvania by Paul and Josephine Spears and their son Paul. She was sold as a yearling in 2004 at the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg for $23,000 and exported to Sweden.
Now, seven years later, the mare by SJ’s Caviar out of the Spears’ mare Sweepstake Hanover (by Super Bowl) has returned to the U.S. to compete in the Allerage. She will be driven by Jeppe Juel of Denmark and is being trained at The Red Mile by Jonas Czernyson.
Since Swept To Victory's racing history is a bit of a mystery, here is the mare’s resume in major events in Scandinavia: 1st--Fiona San's Race at Solvalla1st--V75 Bronze division elim 1st--Mare Elite in V75 competition (the highest level) 1st--V75 Mares race 1st--Queen L's Race at Solvalla 1st--Mare Sprint at Ferjestad 1st--Mare Elite at Charlottenlund 2nd--4-Year-Old Elite at Solvalla 2nd--Gold division final (behind Commander Crowe)
