In one short month Fraulein Bluestone has gone from being the 3-year-old maiden filly trotter who defeated the highly regarded colt Cash Hall in a qualifier at The Red Mile to a bona fide star in the making.

After making breaks in four of her first five starts this year in Canada, the daughter of Angus Hall was sent to trainer Steve Elliott by owner David Scharf and she has flourished at The Red Mile. Making her first start for the Detroit native Elliott in that Sept. 3 qualifier against the sophomore colt Cash Hall, Fraulien Bluestone came up a 1:57.1 winner, with Cash Hall finishing third.

Yannick Gingras drove the filly in that qualifier and Elliott named the 2003 Rising Star of the Year Award winner to direct her in a conditioned event Sept. 10. Fraulien Bluestone won that night in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:58.3, following that up with another conditioned trot win Sept. 18 in a career-best 1:55.2.

In a $12,000 late-closing event Sept. 30, Fraulein Bluestone coasted to a two-length win in 1:56.4, keeping her record perfect in three Lexington starts. Next up for the filly is a late-closer Thursday, Oct. 7, where she has drawn the three hole in a bulky field of 11.

"I don't know if she didn't like the surface up in Toronto, but she seems to like it here," Elliott told The Horseman. "They told me they had trotting hobbles on her and a little bit of everything on her. All we did is change her shoeing a little bit; shoe her normal like a trotter and she's come around.

"She's just a nice filly," he continued. "She seems pretty naturally gaited. I think she can trot in (1):54. If she's good (Thursday) I think we'll go back to Toronto with her."
