Won The West edged his stablemate Foiled Again by a head to win the $312,000 Molson Pace at Western Fair Raceway in Canada Friday night. With David Miller in the sulky, Won The West scored in 1:52 for his third victory of the season in five starts.
Won The West caused a recall, which Miller attributed to the horse being 'real aggressive." But the second time around Miller had his horse more settled and was able to tuck in behind small-track specialist Foiled Again, who was fired out of post four by Yannick Gingras.
Foiled Again set fractions of ;26.2 and :55.3 before Miller had to tip to the outside, as the outer flow of Legal Litagator and Hypnotic Blue Chip threatened to advance. The three-quarter time flashed at 1:23.3 and the Molson turned into a two-horse race between the Burke Stable entries.
Won The West had the edge at the wire, giving the 6-year-old Western Hanover gelding 29 wins in 75 career starts.
Won The West is owned by the Strollin Stable, William Robinson and James Koehler of Ohio.
