If you tune into racing from Woodbine on Thursday, make sure you catch the early race, with a post time of 6:45 pm. The race will be conducted with a starting post moved closer to the first turn at the seven-eighths mile track. The start and finish will be 350 feet farther down the stretch.
Woodbine has been experimenting with races at seven-eighths mile distances and with moving the start/finish locations in an effort to improve the flow of the race and minimize the front-end speed. Last spring Woodbine moved the start/finish locations by 235 feet, a distance that was dictated because of the location of the upper and lower pan race cameras.
Jamie Martin, executive vice-president of racing for Woodbine, said that an additional race might be carded for Monday, May 10.
