The Woodbine Entertainment Group, the largest business in the Ontario horse racing industry, has been relatively quiet about the Ontario government's plans to end the slots at the racetrack program through the provincial lottery corporation. But at Tuesday's Pepsi North America Cup draw, Woodbine CEO Nick Eaves spoke with Harold Howe of The Harness Edge and very candidly discussed horse racing's predicament and strategy.
Eaves told Howe that the government's insistence that racing be able to sustain itself on pari-mutuel wagering is "simply not realistic," that horse racing will not be able to compete with the expansion of gaming the province plans, unless it is a part of it. Click here to listen to the interview.
