Hypnotic Blue Chip and Jody Jamieson, at 11-1, upset heavy favorite Shark Gesture in the $182,500 first division of the US Pacing Championship for free-for-all pacers in a world record 1:47.2 triumph. Annieswesterncard took command at the start, firing from post five for Ron Pierce. Shark Gesture and George Brennan followed in second, joined by Foiled Again and Hypnotic Blue Chip through a :25.4 opening quarter. The favorite didn’t sit long as Brennan moved to the top with Shark Gesture, pacing past the half in :53.3. Racing to three quarters (1:21.3), Jamieson pulled Hypnotic Blue Chip from the cones and brushed by the leader to take command. Shark Gesture would fight back along the inside to narrow the gap but could not regain the lead. Oliver Cleo and Tim Tetrick finished third.
Trained by Kevin McDermott, Hypnotic Blue Chip scored his fifth seasonal win. The victory pushed the horse’s career earnings to $888,312.
Dan Patch award winner Won The West and David Miller took advantage of a hot tempo up front to win the second $185,000 split in 1:48.1. Blueridge Western closed from off the pace to manage second while Vintage Master raced third.
Jeremy's Successor and Brian Sears took the early lead with Bettor Sweet grabbing second before breaking after the :25.4 first quarter. Corky Baran sat behind the leader on the way to a :52.4 opening half as Bettor Sweet settled in third. Campbell and Bettor Sweet would mount a challenge racing into the turn as Won The West and Miller moved third over from fifth early on.
Turning for home (1:20.3), Bettor Sweet took command, but Miller had Won The West three wide and rolling. The six-year-old Western Hanover-Gabrielle gelding brushed to the front and won comfortably as Bettor Sweet finished fourth. Trained by Ron Burke for Strollin Stable, Bill Robinson and James Koehler, Won The West collected his 30th career victory, pushing his earnings to more than $2.5 million.
