Not Enough and Tim Tetrick matched strides with stable mate Yellow Diamond and Jim Morrill Jr. in the stretch before overtaking the leader and winning the $405,000 Mistletoe Shalee final in a world record 1:49 Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands. The sophomore filly, sired by Grinfromeartoear, improved her record to 10 wins in as many starts in 2009 for trainer Tracy Brainard. Gambler’s Passion paced third for John Campbell.
Tetrick and Not Enough settled in fourth early from the rail as Yellow Diamond, the other half of the 2-5 favored entry, fired from post nine for Morrill to take command at the quarter (:26.2). Yellow Diamond would click off a half in :54.1 with Gambler’s Passion and Perfectionist (Daniel Dube) in tow. Tetrick wasted little time shedding the pylons, moving first up and marching to the front and reaching the leader’s flank as the field reached three quarters (1:21.3).
In the stretch, the two fillies, owned by Bulletproof Enterprises and conditioned by Brainard, dueled stride for stride before Not Enough slowly pulled away late to hit the wire first. Yellow Diamond held on for second over Gambler’s Passion, who shook loose late and surged to third. The victory improved Not Enough's earnings to just over $892,000. The time lowered the world record for sophomore pacing fillies by two-fifths of a second. The previous mark was held by the quartet of Incredible Tillie (2000), Rainbow Blue (2004), Hana Hanover (2007) and Happy Dreamer (2008).
