World record in Bucket

Mystic Glide held off heavily-favored Mr. Pine Chip to win the second $75,000 division of the Old Oaken Bucket for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters Thursday, equaling the world record for 3-year-old gelding trotters with a 1:56 clocking over the Delaware half-miler.

Mystic Glide was driven by Duke Sugg, and was able to fend off the stretch bid by Mr. Pine Chip and Brian Sears by a half length after that one had some early road maneuvering to do due to a breaker. Winning Prince was third for Dave Palone.

Ivan Sugg owns and trains the son of Yankee Glide, who nearly doubled his career earnings to more than $70,000 with the win. The time tied the half-mile world record held by Arnold Plumsted and Armbro Copenhagen. Both those wins came at Freehold Raceway.

Another son of Yankee Glide--Limbo Glide--won the first $75,000 Old Oaken Bucket division in 1:56.1. Ron Pierce was in the sulky as Limbo Glide bested Bob Heyden and Boardwalk Hall.

Trained by Jimmy Takter, Liimbo Glide is owned by Christina Takter and Misty Trotting. It was just his second win of the year in 11 starts, lowering his record by a second.
