Ronnie Wrenn Jr., profiled in the Feb. 13 issue of The Horseman, had the best night ever for a driver at a Michigan racetrack on Friday night as he won 10 times on the 14-race program.
Wrenn, 26, has been dividing his time this year between Northville, Northfield Park and Buffalo Raceway. He wasted no time on Friday finding the winner's circle as he not only won the first race with Ilikethesun, but then notched victories in the next three races with Lil Be Dazzeld, Songonbroadway and Thatswhattheysay, respectively. All four winners were the betting favorites.
Wrenn then "allowed" another driver to make it to the winner's circle in the fifth race but he was back having his photo taken in the sixth with heavily-favored Sweet Carol Ann.
Wrenn came up short in his next two starts but then notched win number six with the 3-1 RB Spirit in the ninth race. He won the 10th with 4-5 Doowrah Omelet and the 11th with the 2-1 EE Bay.
After another miss in the 12th race, Wrenn finished off his historic night with victories behind 2-1 Blah Blah Blah in the 13th and 4-5 Chubby Squirrel in the nightcap.
Wrenn's 10-bagger catapulted him to 75 victories in 2013, placing him in a fifth-place tie on the national standings.
Roger Hammer holds the single-card record with 13 wins at Pompano Park in 2009. Roger Hammer, Dave Palone, J.D. Perrin and George Napolitano Jr. are credited with 11 victories on one program. Wrenn joins several other drivers with 10 wins.
