Yankee Cruiser offspring dominate OSS action at Scioto

Sons of Yankee Cruiser won three of the four pacing divisions of Ohio Sires Stakes contested at Scioto Downs on Saturday night. A total of $140,000 was split over seven divisions for trotting and pacing juveniles. Many of these same youngsters competed in Ohio Sires Stakes action last week at Northfield.

The fastest at Scioto was J Cruise who led all the way for father-son and trainer-driver combo of Dan and Kyle Ater. He hit the wire in 1:55.2 to win by two lengths just before torrential rains swept the track.

Cruzin Bayou was another impressive winner as he took command before the half to win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:57.3 for trainer-driver Sam “Chip” Noble.

The third OSS winner by Yankee Cruise was Somethingsgottogive, trained by Jim Arledge and driven by Jeff Nisonger. He roared three wide around the final turn to hit the wire 2-1/4 lengths the best in 1:58.1.

Yankee Cruiser formerly stood at Midland Acres in Ohio but now completed his first season at Hanover Shoe Farms.

The other pacing winner in the OSS events for juveniles was Sammy’s Cool Win (1:58) with Jim Dailey in the bike for trainer Earl Ownings. He is a son of Nobleland Sam paced past pacesetting Sadies Legacy to win by 2-3/4 lengths.

The trotting winners were led by the high-stepping Deep Chip, who rallied from off the pace to hit the wire in 1:59.4 for trainer-driver Jim Dailey. He had a five-length margin. The new 2:00 trotter is a son of Chip Chip Hooray.

John Konesky drove Just Another Photo (Pegasus Spur) to a one-length win in 2:03.2 in his trotting stake. The track was downgraded to sloppy before his victory.

The final trotting split went to Gold’n Chip Chip for driver Ryan Stahl and trainer Kent Sherman with a 5-1/4 length romp in 2:02.4. He is also a son of Chip Chip Hooray.

The night’s Open Pace went, Fox Valley Armor, an invader from The Meadows with driver Matthew Kakaley. He won with a 1:54.2 clocking. (Scioto Downs)
