Yankee Cruisers star at Scioto

Freshman sire Yankee Cruiser continued his amazing first season with youngsters on the racetrack, as his daughters swept all four of the Ohio Sire Stakes events on Saturday night’s card at Scioto Downs. Yankee Cruiser is currently atop the North American standings for two-year-old earnings, with his 54 starters banking over $204,000 already.

 

At the end of June, Yankee Cruiser two-year-old fillies won four of five legs at Northfield, while the colts captured three divisions at Scioto. The Artiscape horse, who stands at Midland Acres, was one of the best of his class, capturing numerous stakes including the North America Cup.

 

At Scioto, his daughter Corner Cruiser [out of the Stand Forever mare Cornerstand] kicked off the parade with a wire-to-wire, 1:56 score with trainer Chip Noble driving. The filly races as a homebred for Steve Sexton, and also won her leg at Northfield

 

Yankee Pankee BB [out of the Nobleland Sam mare Challo BB] likewise won her second sires stake leg with a 1:56.4 victory after a three-wide move at the three-quarters. Ryan Stahl drove for owners Sylvia Burke, Frank Baldachino, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Mickey Burke trains.

 

Kay’s Yankee Lou drew off to a six length score in 1:56.1 for driver Kyle Ater and trainer Brandon Piguet. Out of the Sonsam mare Stage Queen, the filly races for the Gwinnie Lou Stable, James David and Stephen Powers.

 

The Bill Sanders-owned and bred Sand Feathers took the final split by a nose in a sizzling 1:54.2, from the eight hole, for trainer Tye Loy and driver Elliott Deaton. Sand Feathers is out of Sander’s stakes mare Sand Squaw, by Village Connection.

 

Two-year-old trotting fillies also went on Saturday in three divisions at Scioto. Those winners were the Chip Chip Hooray daughter Hooray for Melody in 2:01.4 for trainer Danny Collins, driver Chip Noble and owner Classical Racing Stable; Carly’s Crown, by Corleone, in 2:00.4 with Chris Page up for trainer William Jarbo and owner Jarbo Enterprise; and the Emile Angus daughter She’s Not Red in 2:02.1, with Ray Paver in the bike for trainer Scott Mogan, who co-owns with Ron Anderson, Sandra Burns, and William Johnson II.(Anne Doolin for Scioto Downs)
