Yankee Skyscaper, a 3-year-old colt by Artiscape, won a qualifier at The Red Mile Friday morning in 1:50.4 in his first start behind the gate for trainer Erv Miller. The colt had previously been trained by Chris Ryder.
With Dave Palone aboard, Yankee Skyscaper sat a two-hole trip behind Takeshigemichi, then popped out of the pocket and won by two lengths with a :26.4 last quarter. Yankee Skyscaper was making his first appearance since finishing in a dead heat for sixth in the Cane Pace at Freehold Sept. 3. Takeshigemichi last start was a fourth-place finish in the Jug Preview at Scioto Downs on Sept. 8.
Yankee Skyscaper is owned by the Yankee Skyscaper Stable.
Also on the card, Mud On The Tires, a 3-year-old gelding by Real Desire, won a qualifier in 1:51.3 for trainer Kevin Thomas. Sutter Hanover finished second and Fan Hanover victress Tidewaterdragonfly was third.
