Yarrah Boko, who won the last prep for the Prix d'Amerique when he captured the Prix de Belgique on Jan. 13 at the Vincennes track in Paris, will not be racing in the big event after all. The 8-year-old stallion injured his suspensory and was scheduled to be shipped home to Norway on Monday (Jan. 21).
Yarrah Boko is a son of Coktail Jet-Big Blue Kitten. Coktail Jet's dam is Armbro Glamour (by Super Bowl) while Big Blue Kitten, a daughter of Pine Chip, is a great-great granddaughter of Armbro Regina.
Yarrah Boko suffered a suspensory injury last summer and his veterinarian, Lars Moen, told Sweden's Trav Ronden magazine that he has injured the same area. Moen said he expected that treatment would involve arthroscopy to clean up the damaged area, stem cell therapy, laser therapy and possibly shockwave treatments. He said he believes the horse can return to racing this summer.
As of Monday, 24 horses were still on the list for the upcoming Prix d'Amerique, but the field will be trimmed on Thursday.
