Yes to Learn & Earn in Ohio

October 19, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The Ohio Learn & Earn Campaign is rounding into the homestretch and Dr. John Mossbarger of Midland Acres is encouraging all horsemen in Ohio—both Standardbred and Thoroughbred—to get involved in the grassroots effort to pass Issue 3 on Nov. 7.

“I’d like to encourage everybody in the equine industry in Ohio to call and talk to people to get out the vote,” Mossbarger said. “It will take everybody’s effort to win this. We can’t take anything for granted. We’ve got to work, work some more and then work harder.”

Those who would like to help the Learn & Earn campaign by making phone calls, distributing yard signs and flyers, or sending post cards should contact:

The Ohio Learn & Earn Campaign, also known as Issue 3, is a proposed amendment to Ohio’s constitution that would allow slot machines at Ohio’s seven racetracks and two off-track sites in downtown Cleveland.

Monies earned from the slots are projected to add $166 million to the purse accounts at the Ohio racetracks, with the money distributed between breeds based on the formula already used for simulcasting revenues.

Slot machine proceeds will also be used toward a scholarship fund that will help pay tuition for Ohio students to attend in-state universities.
