Last Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway the total pari-mutuel handle on harness racing was $1,029,000, which marked the 10th time this year that the handle at the track has exceeded the one-million mark. Yonkers had managed to break the $1 million mark only once in the three-year period prior to the installation of some 5,300 video lottery terminals.
Additionally, Friday's handle of $ 997,000 marked the ninth time that the handle was just under $1 million.
According to Joe Faraldo, president of the Standardbred Owners Association of New York, “…fans really appreciate a consistent quality race product, both in our overnight and stakes events and that is exactly what we have tried to achieve. We can’t give enough credit and thanks to the judges, drivers, trainers, and owners who put on a great show every night at the race track.” (SOA/New York)
