Yonkers gets green light

Return Home
November 10, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board Friday issued a conditional track and simulcast license to Yonkers Raceway. A five-day-a-week racing schedule for a season commencing Friday, Nov. 17, was also approved allowing for racing to return to the facility after a year and a half absence.

“Yonkers Raceway has been hard at work upgrading their facility to ensure its compliance of the racing laws, and, most importantly, assuring a safe and secure environment for all of the returning race fans,” said Chairman Daniel D. Hogan. “The Board recognizes that a few issues are still left outstanding, but remain confident Yonkers will meet those items before the betting windows will be allowed to open.“

Upon the issuance of a conditional license, the Board expects Yonkers to meet certain stipulations before any pari-mutuel betting is allowed to commence. Among the conditions are:

• Provide a copy to the Board of a temporary Certificate of Occupancy, issued by NYS Office of General Service, for the new facility that includes the areas of the main building that will be opened for pari-mutuel wagering;
• A re-inspection of the backstretch by NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control indicating that all violations previously identified and reported have been satisfactorily corrected; and
• Be in compliance with all Racing, Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Breeding Laws and rules. (NYSRWB)
