Yonkers' marathon man

While Yonkers Raceway may not be up and running quite yet, the assistant racing secretary certainly is. And not even the rain could stop him. Bob Miecuna successfully completed his fourth half-marathon Sunday, taking on a 13.1-mile Manhattan course which began with a tour of Central Park.

It was Miecuna’s second such distance race this season. For the record, Miecuna traversed his many soggy furlongs in a personal-best 2:13.57, placing him 7,020th among the 10,241 finishers (12,000 or so starters) and moving him that much closer to becoming an honorary Kenyan.

“I’ve been running for four years and this was the best experience I’ve had,” Miecuna said. “To see people standing in the rain and cheering was a real rush.” (Yonkers)
