Yonkers race has conflicts

Return Home
January 03, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Yonkers Raceway has announced dates for four late-closing series, including the seven-leg $750,000 George Morton Levy Memorial for older horse pacers which has some conflicting dates with the Classic Series, Graduate Series, Battle of Lake Erie and Dan Patch Invitational. That could obviously lead to a drain of horses in the division.

The Levy Memorial will have six $50,000 legs and then a $200,000 final. The first preliminary leg is Saturday, March 31, with the second leg slated for Saturday, April 7, just two days before the opening leg of the Classic Series. The fourth leg on Saturday, April 21, comes up directly against the Battle of Lake Erie at Northfield Park, with the fifth leg on Saturday, April 28, butting heads with the Dan Patch at Hoosier Park.

Scheduled on Saturday, May 5, is the second leg of the Classic Series and the sixth leg of the Levy Memorial. The Levy final then comes up directly against the Graduate elims at the Meadowlands on Saturday, May 12.

A point system will be used to determine the eight Levy finalists. A $5,000 nomination fee is due March 1. A horse may also be supplemented at a cost of $10,000 at any point in the series up to the fifth preliminary leg, with that horse eligible to the next two preliminary races only.
