Young Zendt, Bolon debut

With a combined 4,829 driving victories, veteran drivers Bill Zendt and Rodney Bolon are ready to unleash their sons Phil Zendt and Kyle Bolon into harness racing’s driving colony.

Phillip Zendt, 27, will be making his third career driving start on Tuesday in the third race at The Meadows with Hickory Louie, a horse he also trains. The 3-year-old pacer was bred and is owned by William Gilliland. Hickory Louie finished fourth in his racing debut with Zendt aboard. They will leave from post position five and are slated the 20-1 longshot of the field.

Kyle Bolon, 18, will counter with Chantal Hanover. Bolon will be making his second career driving start, but his first ever at The Meadows. His first start came at the Delaware County Fairgrounds during Jug Week. Bolon has had 21 drives in qualifiers this year at The Meadows. He has won five and has finished on the board in 12 of 21. That’s a winning average of 24 percent. He guided Chantal Hanover to a fourth-place finish in a Dec. 5 qualifier at the Meadows. They will leave from post position two and are 6-1 on the morning line. (The Meadows)
