Zeron sidelined by ORC

Woodbine trainer-driver Rick Zeron is the latest trainer to have a positive test for aminorex, and he wasn't the only top Woodbine horseman to sit on the sidelines Saturday night as driver Mark MacDonald was also out of action for reasons described as "lack of fitness."

Zeron, who has been the leading driver at WEG thus far this year and the fourth leading trainer, had horses he trains scratched Friday, but he drove. He was taken off his mounts Saturday. Woodbine official Barry Hewson said Zeron will not be permitted to compete pending the results of an Ontario Racing Commission investigation.

Zeron was the seventh trainer to be taken out of action this week by the ORC.

Also, while MacDonald drove at Woodbine Thursday night, he did not drive as programmed on Friday or Saturday nights or Sunday afternoon. He was reportedly scheduled to begin a planned vacation to Florida on Monday. In addition, Chris Christoforou Jr. has also been out of action at Woodbine, reportedly for personal reasons.
