A total of 21 horses have been entered in the Pepsi North America Cup. The eliminations will be contested Saturday night, June 8, at Mohawk Racetrack.
From the rail out, the three 7-horse eliminations are as follows: First elim--1--Moonliteonthebeach,2--Varadero Hanover, 3--Evenin Of Pleasure, 4--See And Ski, 5--Captaintreacherous, 6--Sunshine Beach, 7--Captive Audience; Second elim--1--Cougar Hall, 2--Twilight Bonfire, 3--Fool Me Once, 4--Rockin Amadeus, 5--Wake Up Peter, 6--Sweet Talkin Satin, 7--Martini Hanover. Third elim: 1--Vegas Vacation, 2--Johny Rock, 3--Dovuto Hanover, 4--Odds On Equuleus, 5--Beach Memories, 6--Apprentice Hanover, 7--Resistance Futile.
The top three finishers from each elim --- plus one fourth-place finisher, drawn by lot --- will advance the to $1-million Pepsi North America Cup, which will take place at Mohawk on Saturday, June 15. The connections of the elimination winners will be able to pick their post positions for the 30th edition of the NA Cup.
Sunshine Beach, trained by Mark Steacy, was an impressive winner in his division of the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes this past Saturday at Mohawk as the sophomore pacer got under the wire first in 1:49.2.
The son of Somebeachsomewhere, who is owned by Diane Bertrand, Conrad Leber and Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. remains a perfect two-for-two to start the season for driver Chris Christoforou.
With his impressive victory, Sunshine Beach has established himself as a contender for this year's $1 million Pepsi North America Cup, which takes place on June 15 at Mohawk. Following his stakes victory, Steacy offered his thoughts on the three-time winner.
