With one swift move off the gate, the fate of the Monday feature race at Pompano Park was sealed as Guy Gets Girl breezed to a front-end victory in the $18,000 winners-over handicap trot, stopping the clock in a seasonal-best 1:55.2.

Driven aggressively from post four by Pompano Park’s leading driver Bruce Ranger, Guy Gets Girl seized control of the Monday feature on the first turn, claiming the top spot while cruising through an opening quarter mile in :28.

After passing the half-mile pole in :58.4 after a soft second panel that went in :30.4, Guy Gets Girl trotted unchallenged down the backstretch to reach the three-quarters marker in 1:27.1.

The son of Keystone Nordic entered the stretch with a 1 ½-length advantage, and was never seriously threatened down the lane to prevail by a length at the wire over the pocket-sitting Talk About Me (Mickey McNichol).

Guy Gets Girl returned $5.20, $4, $2.80 for the victory. Talk About Me paid $4.20, $3 for second, while C Le Noir (Wally Hennessey) brought in $2.80 for third.

A four-time winner from 12 starts this year, Guy Gets Girl has visited the winner’s circle in three of his last four outings at Pompano. (Pompano Park)
