Dream Together provided the biggest upset of Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands. Driven by Bob McClure, the Muscle Hill mare, sent off at 50-1, came flying late to pass Broadway Donna in the $154,800 Dr. John R. Steele Memorial for free-for-all mare trotters, stopping the clock in 1:51.3. She paid $105.60, $49.60 and $25.20.
Drawing outside in the field of nine, Yannick Gingras left with Ariana G and secured the lead through fractions of :27, :55 and 1:23.3. Fourth along the inside early on, Dream Together would remain along the pylons as Caprice Hill started the outer flow from sixth with Checkmate Time following. In the stretch, McClure was able to move his filly to the outside and had the most trot late as several mares closed on the wire together, winning by a neck. Caprice Hill raced third and Ice Attraction trotted fourth. Favorite Ariana G finished fifth.
The four-year-old mare is trained by Luc Blais for owner Determination of Quebec. Dream Together was bred by Bluestone Farms LLC and Fredericka Caldwell. The victory was the second in 10 seasonal starts, and the time established a new lifetime mark for the mare. The triumph pushed her career earnings to $582,764.
