Although he only needed a final quarter of :30 to seal the victory, Devonshire Hanover earned himself a spot in the record books as he posted half-mile and three-quarter clockings of :51.2 and 1:19, respectively, en route to a career-best 1:49 victory Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Driver George Brennan, who said afterward \"I rated him last week (a fifth-place finish after leading to the three-quarters), I certainly didn\'t want to rate him tonight,\" sent the 5-year-old gelding to the front and led the entire way, drawing clear to a 9 3/4-length victory in the third race, a $30,000 claiming event.

\"It\'s not much different than you are riding faster,\" added Brennan of the torrid tempo on top that were the fastest half and three-quarters ever paced.

Richard J. Banca trains the gelded son of Arturo for owners Richard T. Banca and Ralph Manfredonia. The win was his fifth in 18 starts this year, lowering his mark from 1:49.4 set June 2 at the Meadowlands.
