Amethyst posted her eighth straight victory, an easy, two-length triumph in the second round of the Sandpiper Pacing Series at Pompano Park on Wednesday.

Driven by Wally Hennessey, it was the 12th win in 14 starts this year for the 3-year-old filly who raced against male rivals for the first time in her career. Amethyst is trained and co-owned by Rod Lorenzo and the Keisers Oberman Stables of Boca Raton, Fla. She covered the mile in 1:55.

In the second round of the Everglade Trotting Series for 3-year-old Florida-breds, Sudden Speed was able to grind it out on the backstretch and then post a one length victory over favorite Wyatt in 1:59.4.

Terry McIntyre drives, trains and leases Sudden Speed, a gelded son of Guided Speed.
