Artistic Fella ($4.00) lived up his his status as the even-money favorite in the $1 million Meadowlands Pace, winning by 1 ¼ lengths over My Boy David and Armbro Deuce in 1:48.4.

Cat Manzi drove Artistic Fella to the colt’s ninth straight victory this season. Steve Elliott trains the winner for owner Joseph Alborano of New Egypt, N.J.

Took Hanover and John Campbell and then Perfect Union and David Miller were the early leaders in the race before Manzi made the expected Meadowlands move to the front just past the :26.3 quarter. Artistic Fella hit the halfway mark in :53.1 unchallenged.

When the outer flow lagged in advancing, Campbell tipped back to the outside with Took Hanover going into the last turn. That gave North America Cup winner Total Truth a second-over trip, but in the stretch drive he flattened out and faded.

\"When they settled at the quarter and started to go slow, it set up perfect for me to move to the front,\" said Manzi. \"I really thought it was about over once I did that. I just wanted to make sure he kept going, that was all. I did get after him a little to make sure he got it done. I felt great [in the stretch]. This was like my destiny. I drove the horse a few months ago and couldn’t do anything with him. Here, he fell back in my lap. Joe [owner Alborano] said to give him another try. It was exciting. It feels like it was my destiny, it feels great.”

Andy Miller, driver of second-place finisher My Boy David, had no complaints, “The trip worked out perfect. I was up close and there were big fractions. I was just looking for a way out up the lane. He shook loose and charged home pretty strong.”

My Boy David\'s trainer, Homer Hochstetler, was pleased, “He had a good go. I wish he would have gotten out a little sooner. He needed a trip like that to be second. He raced well. I don’t know if he could have caught him if he left a little sooner. I was just happy to be second.”

On-track attendence for the Meadowlands Pace card was 20,507.
