Speed Bomb gave trainer and owner Tom Davis a nice 55th birthday present when the 3-year-old colt won the second of two $29,224 Ohio Breeders Championship events for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters at the Delaware (Ohio) County Fairgrounds Wednesday. The first division went to This Sands Hot for trainer-driver John Konesky III.

Speed Bomb reached the wire first in 1:58 with Ray Paver in the bike. Master Pine and Dave Rankin finished second, with Super Rapper and Marty Wollam third. The win was the fifth of the year in 10 starts for Speed Bomb, a son of Master Lavec, increasing his career earnings to more than $105,000 for Davis and partner Slaughter Racing Stable.

This Sands Hot was a 1:59 winner, defeating Master Begonia and Delayofgame. The win was a career best for the sophomore gelding by more than three seconds. Now a 10-time winner in 19 starts this year, This Sands Hot is a son of Sand Chaser owned by G.B. Reddin. His career earnings now stand at more than $80,000.
