Corey Callahan became the first driver to win six races on a single card during this meet at Dover Downs but he could not win the $15,000 pace because he did not have a drive in the feature race on Saturday. A 19-1 shot, Sometimes Regrets, was the winner with Ross Wolfenden in the sulky.
For the second straight week Sometimes Regrets, owned by Ryan Gray and Scott Collier, was overlooked by the bettors. After winning at 25-1 last time out with trainer Mark Gray also driving, the 4-year-old Spirited Style-Pelikn gelding left from post two with Wolfenden, the number-two driver in the standings, piloting a 1:54.4 victory. Intrepid Hall (Daryl Bier) was a close second. Forty Four Magnum (Vic Kirby) shot up into third.
Callahan’s sixth win came after driving Art Brewer’s Urbino Hanover to a 1:54.3 triumph after a head-to-head battle with Battleship Kelly (Wolfenden) from mid-backstretch to deep stretch before prevailing by a length over A Badlands Special (Brad Hanners) who nipped Battleship Kelly in the last stride.
Callahan’s six winning drives increases his lead over runner-up Wolfenden to 12, 68 to 58. Trainer Dylan Davis haltered two winners. (Dover Downs)
