Always Cam continued the upset-themed Breeders Crown events for older pacers at the Meadowlands Saturday night when she captured the $300,000 contest for pacing mares with a career-best 1:49.2 effort for driver David Miller. Always Cam was the only mare that elected to skip last weekend's Crown prep race at the Big M, remaining at her home track of The Meadows where she finished second in a Preferred contest.

Always Cam, whose previous biggest victory came in the 2002 Jugette, was sent off at odds of 20-1 and she came charging through the stretch to defeat a late-closing Bunny Lake and driver John Campbell. George Brennan directed Loyal Opposition to a third-place finish. Burnging Point and Ron Pierce had set the fractions but after a :52.4 half and 1:20.3 three-quarters, she tired in the stretch to finish far out of it.

Bill Zendt trains Always Cam, a 5-year-old daughter of Western Hanover, for Cam Land LLC.
