American Nitro ($2.40, Victor Kirby) and Apple Valley Art ($2.20, Tim Tetrick) scored decisive wins in the second $20,000 leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes action Monday at Harrington Raceway.
American Nitro, owned by Nanticoke Racing, Arthur Feeney and Daniel Doane, brushed to the front near three quarters and opened up on the field for a 1:54.1 five-length score in the first division for trainer Les Givens. The Badlands Nitro-Jet America gelding recorded his sixth career win. Bebop On The Beach, who set the pace, was second with Aidan third.
The second division saw a front end score for Jo Ann Looney-King’s Apple Valley Art, who controlled the tempo en route to an easy 1:55.4 score victory for trainer Jim King Jr. The Artzina-Shake Away gelding never had an anxious moment and completed a sweep of his eliminations. Leonard’s Legacy was second with Elite Retreat third.
Kirby, Tetrick and Russell Foster each had three wins apiece.
George Leager’s Slick Tony ($7.20, Foster) won the overnight feature, the $11,000 Open Pace, in 1:52.3. Trained by his owner, the 5-year-old No Spin Zone stallion led most of the way and recorded his 37th career win over Luis Alberto N and Wiggle It Jiggleit. (Harrington)
