American Lane posted his fifth win in nine starts this year thanks to a solid 1:55 score in a $42,000 overnight at the Meadowlands Friday night. Buck I St Pat, the 3-2 betting favorite, couldn\'t stay with her cover and failed to threaten, and last year\'s Yonkers Trot winner Green Day made his first start of the season but was never a factor in the race.
American Lane, a 6-year-old gelding by Primrose Lane, is owned by David Scharf and Jerry Silva and trained by Carl Cito Jr. Last year the gelding won 15 of 42 starts.
CR Dream Catcher, who started from post one, took the early lead and then yielded to American Lane not far past the first quarter. American Lane and Cat Manzi set the tempo of :57.4 to the half and 1:27.1 to the three-quarter mark.
Andy Miller was in the sulky aboard Green Day and raced the 4-year-old gelding near the back of the field. They dropped in the cover flow but flattened out in the stretch drive.
Buck I St. Pat, making her first start since shipping north from Florida, enjoyed a second-over trip, behind Swan Image, but couldn\'t keep up with her cover.
