Amigo Hall easy victor

Amigo Hall (Mike Lachance) was an easy winner in the second of two $30,000 eliminations on Saturday night (Sept. 13) at Mohawk for the $1.1 million Canadian Trotting Classic.

The three-year-old son of Balanced Image - Alis Cat drew off in the lane to win in 1:54. Mr Muscleman (Ron Pierce) rallied from last to second, finishing two-and-a-half lengths back. Favoured Mutineer (Eric Ledford), who sat second in mid-stretch went on a break and failed to advance. Kingdom (Rick Zeron) was third. C Cs Chuckie T (Chris Christoforou) was fourth. Muscle King (Jack Moiseyev) grabbed the last spot for the final, with the top five finishers in each of the 11-horse fields advancing.

The victory improved Amigo Hall to 4-3-2 in nine starts this year and upped his bankroll to $673,579 lifetime for trainer Blair Burgess and owners Walnut Hall Limited of Lexington, KY, Bob Burgess (Blair's father) of Campbellville, ON and Karin Burgess (Blair's wife) of Milton, ON.

In the other Canadian Trotting Classic elimination, Penn Pronto and Jack Moiseyev posted a stunning 80-1 upset. The son of S Js Photo - Hey Jude defeated Sugar Trader (Luc Ouellette) by three-quarters-of-a-length in 1:55.2. Upalazyriver (Brian Sears) was third. Hambletonian favourite Power To Charm (John Campbell) was fourth and Captain Brady (Trevor Ritchie) recovered from a long early break to grab the final spot in next Saturday's final.

Penn Pronto is trained by Del Cameron and owned Jim Wheeler of Boynton Beach, FL. The colt now sports earnings of $55,315 lifetime.
