Arch Madness dominates in Mohawk stake

September 20, 2008

After sitting fourth with Enough Talk setting wicked fractions, Arch Madness and Brian Sears poured on the steam down the stretch to win Saturday’s $728,600(C) Maple Leaf Trot at Mohawk in a stakes record 1:52.

Enough Talk (Luc Ouellette) lead the field to a :26.2 opening quarter with Corleone Kosmos (John Campbell) sitting in the pocket.  After the :54.4 half, Corleone Kosmos pulled but could never get past Enough Talk’s wheel.  At the 1:23 third quarter, Enough Talk looked tough to beat but Arch Madness had cover from Corleone Kosmos and without any urging, got up to win impressively by 2 ½ lengths.  The 1:52 mile tied the track record for aged trotters (set by Mr Muscleman in 2005) and is also a new lifetime mark for Arch Madness.

Enough Talk finished second with Armbro Chronicle (Mike Saftic) getting up for third and Colombian Necktie (Thomas Uhrberg) holding on for fourth.  Arch Madness went off at odds of 9/5.

The four-year-old Trond Smedshammer trainee is by Balanced Image out of the S J’s Photo mare Armbro Archer.  After finishing second in each of his last four starts, this win made Arch Madness’ lifetime earnings soar past $1.6-million for owners Marc Goldberg of Woodmere, NY and Willow Pond LLC of Hewlett, NY.  Arch Madness now has 13 wins in 33 lifetime starts.

“I look forward to racing him next year,” said Sears.
