Arthur Jackson Jr., 69, of Canyon, Texas, died June 12. Born in Belmont County, Ohio, Mr. Jackson was a longtime owner and trainer-driver of Standardbreds while living in Zanesville, Ohio.
Mr. Jackson relocated to Texas, to work as a cattle buyer. He continued to train Standardbreds on his ranch in Texas before sending horses back to Ohio to race. His best horses included Kuzzin Kat p,2,1:56.2f; p,3,1:54; p,4,1:52.3 ($161,488) and Big Tuna. Kuzzin Kat was a world champion as a 2-year-old pacer on a five-eighths-mile track in 1988 and won the $100,000 Ohio Sires Stakes final in 1989 at Northfield Park. Other horses he owned include Weather Vane, Fantaction, Buck I Time and City Ridge.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith Harper Jackson; son, Bryan (Tiffany); grandchildren, Brylie and Jaylen; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at Trinity Fellowship Church Chapel with David Lough, Minister of University Church of Christ in Canyon, officiating.
