Artistic Fella showed he is pretty much on top of his game when he won over older horses with a 1:50.1 effort Sunday afternoon at Harrah’s Chester Downs. The time is the fastest ever over the five-eighths mile oval which opened for racing on Sept. 10.
Despite not having raced since Sept. 16, Artistic Fella survived a parked-out journey through the first three eighths (first quarter :26.2), then cruised through fractions of :54.3 and 1:21.4 before winning by 1 ½ lengths over Quality Western. Cat Manzi drove Artistic Fella.
Artistic Fella has now won 11 of 16 starts this season. A second-place finish at The Red Mile on Sept. 16 snapped his 10-race winning streak. Trainer Steve Elliott and owner Joe Alborano have indicated they plan to supplement Artistic Fella to the Breeders Crown at Woodbine.
