The 18-year-old stallion Artsplace is suffering from laminitis at Southwind Farm in Pennington, N.J., but is in stable condition. During the 2006 breeding season he was bred to 182 mares.

“It’s been going on for about a week,” said Art Zubrod, manager of Brittany Farms, which manages the son of Abercrombie. “Laminitis is not uncommon for horses of his age, or his sire line.”

Zubrod said Artsplace developed a mild case of laminitis which escalated into what he called a “medium” case.

“I wouldn’t say he’s 100 percent out of the woods, but he seems to be headed in the right direction,” added Zubrod.

Artsplace has sired 15 million-dollar winners, including the $2.7 million performer Art Major and the $1.9 million earning filly Worldly Beauty.
