Don't forget that the second New Jersey gaming summit is set for this coming Friday at 10 am on the Pegasus level at the Meadowlands Racetrack. The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey is urging the harness racing community--caretakers, owners, trainers, vendors and any one else wishing to support the sport--to show up for the meeting.
In the meantime, Ray Bateman, a one-time chairman of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, has written a supportive commentary on the matter of the Atlantic City casino industry versus horse racing. Bateman notes that, "While the Hanson report reports on current Meadowlands and Sports Authority losses of up to $30 million this year, nowhere does it discuss in detail the hundreds of millions of dollars of subsidies already poured into Atlantic City and the casino industry."
Bateman goes on to highlight a few ways in which he says the state subsidies the Atlantic City casinos. Click here to read his commentary.
