Beachy and son killed in PA shooting

Well-known Standardbred auctioneer Dean Beachy of Ohio was killed in the shooting at a restaurant/bar in a Ramada Inn hotel outside of State College, Pa., near Penn State University, late Thursday night. He was 62. Mr. Beachy was one of four people killed in the shooting. Mr. Beachy was at the restaurant having dinner with his son Steve, 19, who was also shot and died of injuries on Friday.
Mr. Beachy worked both sides of horse sales, as an auctioneer and bidspotter and buyer, often purchasing horses under the name of Holmes Stock Farm. His Dean Beachy & Associates worked the Blooded Horse Sale and he was also active at sales conducted by the Standardbred Horse Sales Co. and Tattersalls. He and Steve had attended the Tattersalls January Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands on Monday and were in the State College area to help with an auction.
