Writing for the Daily Racing Form, Harness Tracks of America's Stan Bergstein has painted Jon Hanson, chairman of the New Jersey commission calling for the Meadowlands Racetrack to be closed, as a bear who finally came out of the cave for last week's Democratic-led Summit on Gaming at Monmouth Park.
Bergstein writes that when Hanson reflected on the opening of the Meadowlands 34 years ago, with a crowd of 42,000, to today when crowds are much smaller, "...conveniently left out any mention of the advent of simulcasting in the 1980s and its huge impact on the distribution of attendance everywhere ever since."
