Finding a creative way to overcome his post 9 assignment, Bettis moved third over, then brushed wide and powerfully through the stretch to capture Wednesday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Bettis got away sixth, but when even-money favorite Action-Broadway came second over, Aaron Merriman hustled Bettis behind her and rode that cover to the final turn. The 6-year-old son of Sierra Kosmos-SJ’s Shad Roe overtook Action-Broadway in deep stretch and defeated her by a length in 1:55.2, equaling his career best. Careless Love rallied for show.

David Wade trains Bettis, who won for the fourth time in his last five starts and soared past $200,000 in lifetime earnings, and owns with William F. Peel III and Gerald Brittingham.

Vivid Photo, the 2005 Hambletonian winner, made his seasonal debut in a conditioned trot, finishing fifth at 25-1 after leading at the quarter for trainer/driver Roger Hammer. His $740 check extended his career bankroll to $3,207,708.
