Live Jazz trotted to a world-record 1:56.4 victory Thursday afternoon in the first of two $36,000 divisions of the Standardbred for 2-year-old colts and geldings. It was a bit different two races later in the second $36,000 split as Soulful Delight needed just 2:01 to complete his mile and subsequent trip to the winner's circle.

Also, Big Bad John, who won the Standardbred division for freshman colt pacers in world record-equaling fashion, earned his way to next weekend's Breeders Crown eliminations at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The winning effort was also a track record for the division.

In the first division for first-year male trotters, driver John Campbell left for the lead with Live Jazz as Kyle Bolon dropped in second with Bloomington. Campbell yielded the front to the David Miller-driven Captain George at the :28.1 opening quarter, but he retook the top spot quickly. Live Jazz led through a half in :58.3 and three-quarters in 1:27.3 as he began to draw clear from his rivals.

Under the wire Live Jazz had an 8 1/2-length margin over runner-up Bloomington, who was angled to the outside coming out of the last turn. Captain George held for third.

Live Jazz's effort easily lowered the previous world mark for 2-year-old colt trotters on a half-mile track of 1:57.2 shared by Rose Run Jeriah and Chapter Seven. A $55,000 yearling purchase, Live Jazz is a son of Andover Hall owned by Campbell's Juniper II, Mel Hartman, Neal Goldman and trainer Chuck Sylvester. The win was his third of the year in six starts, increasing his earnings to more than $60,000.

Ron Pierce sent Soulful Delight to the top at the start of the second division as Campbell tucked in second with Cash On Delivery. The gelded son of Like A Prayer set fractions of :28.3, 1:00.4 and 1:32.1 as he held off Cash On Delivery by 1 1/4 lengths for his fifth win in 10 attempts. Highway was third for Miller.

In the $55,000 Standardbred for 2-year-old filly pacers, Pink Magic came up a winner in 1:57 for driver John Campbell. The daughter of The Panderosa edged Latin Lyric and Brett Miller for her second win in seven starts. Nutmegs Cider was third for David Miller.

In The Pink Racing LLC owns Pink Magic, who is trained by Danny Collins. Both Latin Lyric and Nutmegs Cider are trained by Brian Brown, who also conditioned fifth-place finisher Nutmegs Yankee.

Trained by Bobby Brower, Soulful Delight is owned by DM Stables and Brower. The career-best win pushed his earnings past the $100,000 mark..

Standardbred action on Thursday wrapped up with the $65,300 single division for 2-year-old colt pacers and it was Big Bad John who came up a winner in 1:53, equaling the world record on a half-mile track. Finishing second was the Tim Tetrick-driven Powerful Mist with Magnus Deo and George Brennan third.

Ron Potter trains the winning son of Western Hanover for owner Winchester Baye Acres of Ocala, Fla. The win was his fifth in six starts (along with one second) to increase his earnings to nearly $100,000.
