Big League Barry hit a home run in the $25,000 ( C ) first leg of the Mohawk Pacing Series Friday night (April 23), wiring the field for a 1:51.1 victory.
With Mario Ballargeon in the bike, Big League Barry left from post two and cut fractions of :26.3, :55.1 and 1:23.1 en route to his lifetime best performance. Duca (Randy Waples) followed on his back every step of the way and was 2 3/4 lengths back in second at the wire. Race favorite Ponder (Steve Condren) came first-over into second at the three quarters, but faded back and finished third.
Big League Barry, a 3-year-old gelded son of Cambest won for the fourth time in eight starts this year for trainer Benoit Ballargeon, who owns the gelding with Whitesand Valley Stables and MB Racing.
