The first full week of slots play at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs generated $358,000 for the purse account at the Pennsylvania harness track, “far beyond what we expected,” said Ron Battoni, executive director of the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association (PHHA), which represents horsemen at the track. The purse supplement was generated from gross play of $39 million.

Battoni said the PHHA received an additional $18,000 for its health and pension programs for horsemen.

The Mohegan slots operation at Pocono Downs is presently housed in the track’s 40-plus year old grandstand, which was refurbished to accommodate just under 1,100 machines. A new 300,000 square foot facility will be built in 2007.
