The track at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs was rated "good" after rain had spoiled its usually fast surface, but still the 3-year-olds Economy Terror and Shakerattlenrock turned in impressive efforts in qualifiers on Thursday morning. Economy Terror, the 2011 Dan Patch 2-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year, won in 1:53.3 while NA Cup and Meadowlands Pace eligible Shakerattlenrock, who captured last year's Metro consolation, romped by 11 /34 lengths in 1:53.2.
With a :27.2 last quarter, Economy Terror won by a neck over the 3-year-old Art Major filly Ryder Blue Chip p,2, 1:52.3. Matt Kakaley drove Economy Terror, a filly by Western Terror, for trainer Chris Oakes and owners Chuck Pompey, Ed Gold and Howard Taylor. Last season the filly won eight of 11 starts and earned $926,520 while taking a mark of 1:50.3.
Shakerattlenrock was already up by five lengths at the halfway mark in his qualifier, then jogged home from there for driver Mike Simons, who was in the sulky for trainer Robert Horowitz. Horowitz also shares ownership of the Rocknroll Hanover -Fox Valley Shaker colt with Fabulous Farms LLC (Anthony Ambrosio and Michael Deutsch). Horowitz bought the colt as a yearling for $30,000 from the Perretti Farms consignment.
