Three horses were separated by a minuscule margin at the conclusion of the featured $14,000 Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park on Monday, with the Florida-bred Railee Possible holding sway in the final yards to come out on the winning end of a tight photo finish and prevail in 1:56.2.

Railee Possible was driven aggressively off the gate from post six by Dan Clements, opening up a two-length advantage on the first turn before throttling down just a touch to take the field through fractions of :28, :57.3, and 1:26.3.

After turning back the first-over challenge of wagering favorite Gale Warning (Wally Hennessey), Railee Possible entered the stretch with a one-length lead. At that point, Indian Hill Rocket (Kevin Wallis) and Muscular (Dave Mercer) swarmed the Veral Bowman trainee on both sides, and that trio hit the wire together, with the son of Anythings Possible digging in late to prevail by a nose.

Railee Possible returned $8.60, $4.20, and $5.40 for the victory. Indian Hill Rocket brought in $17.60 and $8.40 for second, while Muscular paid $5.20 for third.

Owned by Frank and Inge Smith, Railee Possible has visited the winner’s circle 13 times in 29 stars this year, which matches his win total from his first three seasons combined. The 5-year-old gelding boasts a seasonal bankroll of $111,960, with lifetime earnings over the $230,000 mark. (Pompano Park)
