Randy Waples tried to steal the $347,000 Goodtimes final with Sim Brown, but Blue Porsche lived up to his name, showing a high-performance gear to track down the pacesetter and win the race in 1:54.2.
Sim Brown, who has been battling lameness issues, started from post nine, but regular driver Randy Waples showed confidence in the horse and sent him to the front. They didn't clear to the front until past the :28 opener, but then enjoyed a :30.3 breather, hitting the halfway mark in :58.3. When Blue Porsche's driver, Trevor Ritchie, saw the slow half time, he got Blue Porsche moving first-over.
"When I seen the half flash up, I wasn't happy," said Ritchie after the race. "I thought if we got up reasonably close at the three-quarters, they'd have to go some to beat me."
Blue Porsche opened up a clear lead early in the stretch drive while Sim Brown battled for second, holding on over 60-1 shot Onirique, with VC Chocoholic fourth.
Blue Porsche is now undefeated in three starts this season. The colt from the first crop by Glidemaster is trained by Blair Burgess, who also trained Glidemaster to Triple Crown honors.
