Horseman Rod Bolon was released from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh late Saturday afternoon after doctors diagnosed him with a severe concussion and torn ligaments in his neck. The neurosurgeon who evaluated his condition said the ligaments would heal without surgery, but could not offer more specifics without additional tests, which will be performed next week, after the symptoms from the concussion subside. Bolon was experiencing severe vomiting.
Bolon, 54, was injured Friday at The Meadows when he was coming off the track with a horse when another horse was spooked and ran into him, sending him flying through the air. Bolon hit his head but was wearing his helmet and had his chin strap fastened. His helmet was damaged from the impact.
