Brian Schroeder Memorial Friday at Batavia
« Return to News
Batavia Downs Gaming will hold the Brian Schroeder Memorial trot on Friday night with Ray Demers, a former employee of Schroeder, leading the post parade for race seven in Schroeder’s colors.
Schroeder was a longtime harness racing driver and trainer on the Western New York circuit. He passed way after a lengthy illness on Oct. 11 at the age of 67. Per his request, his hearse took two slow trips around the track at Batavia Downs on the way to his burial.
His career highlight will be shown on the closed circuit monitors before the seventh race—a second-place finish at odds of 68-to-1 with Financial Paige in the $446,900 Breeders Crown 3-year-old Filly Trot at Woodbine in 1995.
Other top trotters Brian Schroeder raced throughout his career were Collier St. Joey, a starter in 1993 Hambletonian; Collier St. Kathy; Top Trotter; Remind Me; Mykonos; Texas Café; Matched Pearls; and Taylor T Collins. (Batavia Downs)
