Brothers finish 1-2 in Indiana Downs feature
« Return to News
It’s not often that siblings compete on the same card, let alone in the same race. Brothers Rebelman and Freddyscooter not only battled in Indiana Downs featured contest, a $20,000 invitational pace, Saturday evening, September 20, but only a neck separated the two at the finish. Seven year old Rebelman, driven by Trace Tetrick, held off the late-charging Freddyscooter and Ricky Macomber in 1:51.1.
Tetrick and Rebelman left from post five when the gate folded, reaching the lead after the :27.4 opening panel. The gelded son of Electric Yankee cut the mile while his sophomore sibling raced mid-pack in the field of seven. In the lane, Macomber picked his way through traffic, and the I Scoot Hanover three year old closed with a lightning-fast :26.1 last quarter to fall just short at the wire. Rocket Fuel and Dan Shetler were third.
With the victory, Rebelman pushed his career earnings to more than $450,000. Freddyscooter, a winner of the $100,000 Indiana Sires Stakes final for sophomore pacing colts earlier this month, possesses earnings of just over $155,000.
Both Rebelman and Freddyscooter are foals from Artsplace mare Precious Sarah. Trainer Steve Brannan bred the geldings, and he owns both pacers. Fred Shiery co-owns Freddyscooter with the Ohio horseman.
